The Mission Hills community over looks San Diego Bay and Old Town in the hillside area south of Mission Valley. It’s primarily a residential neighborhood with small shops and restaurants within close proximity. Most of the homes in this community have history dating back to the early 20th century when they were designed and built by the San Diego’s premier architects.
Mission Hills is considered uptown San Diego and is most accessible from the I5 Freeway or 163. Mission Hills is loacted just a few minutes from downtown, Mission Bay, Balboa Park or shopping in Mission Valley.
Starting in the 1950’s modern master architects like John Loyd Wright built homes along the canyon rim. Most of these homes have amazing views of the San Diego River Valley and can been seen from the Mission Valley area.
Mission Hills also contains the Mission Hills Nursery founded by famous horticulturalist Kate Sessions in 1910 and is still in operation today. University Avenue and Washington Street are the major commerce areas within this fine San Diego community.
To sum it up, Mission Hills is a neighborhood with an eclectic mix of well maintained homes. It is far from being a typical southern California cookie cutters suburb. With a quick walk down any single street and you will find perfectly restored Victorian homes, Craftsman style bungalows, and a dash of modern architecture. The weather in the Mission Hills area is always moderate to warm with an occasional cool ocean breeze, perfect for growing flowers and gardens.
